Cagliari have parted company with head coach Massimo Rastelli after a recent poor run of form.

The club got off to a mixed start in Serie A this season but Sunday's 3-2 home defeat to fellow strugglers Genoa saw them slip to 14th in the standings - just one point above the relegation zone - following a four-match losing streak.

Rastelli oversaw promotion from Serie B two seasons ago and Cagliari finished a respectable 11th last term.

A statement on the club's official website, read: "Cagliari Calcio have released Massimo Rastelli from his position in charge of the first team.

"Thanks to Rastelli (who has worked for us) for over two years with professionalism and passion. He was a protagonist in winning the Serie B championship and attaining the 11th place last season.

"The collaboration with the assistant coach Nicola Legrottaglie and with coach Dario Rossi has also ended, to whom (we owe) a sincere thank you for the work done and the dedication shown."

Cagliari are yet to announce Rastelli's successor ahead of Sunday's league trip to Lazio.
