A million children around the world, including Maltese and Gozitan children, will recite the rosary in their homes and schools for world peace and unity on Wednesday.

The international charity Aid to Church in Need (ACN) is once again inviting all Maltese children to join children from all over the world in this annual event to foster peace and understanding.

Last year children from 69 countries participated, including 9,000 boys and girls from Malta and Gozo.

This year marks  the 100th anniversary since Our Lady appeared to three children – Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta – at Fatima asking them to pray through the rosary for peace in the world.

At that time, the world was experiencing the horrors of World War I. As the world faces the widespread risk of war from Korea to Iraq and the increasing threat of nuclear weapons, an initiative to pray for peace is more important than ever now.

ACN Malta asks the support of everyone, especially parents, grandparents, teachers and youth leaders to spread the word and encourage children in their care to join others worldwide in praying the rosary for peace.

The rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 9am. The charity will be sending a free rosary bead to all children who wish to take part. Send an e-mail with your postal address and the number of beads required to info@acnmalta.org.
