A set of four new clocks was installed on the Għajnsielem parish church belfry in a two-day operation. The project was initiated by parish priest Frankie Bajada, while artist Vince Caruana developed the concept and artistic designs.

The artist believed the number four was a pivotal number in the design of the clock faces... in fact, he incorporated the four Evangelists, the four seasons, the four elements and the four wind directions.

The Evangelists are represented as winged living figures and the elements, produced in coloured glass, were assembled in pre-cut white marble dials. The choice of coloured glass represents the season while the direction is where they are actually facing.

The clocks do not simply show the time. Their symbolism extends to its numerical timing, where one finds the alpha and omega to mark the ninth and third hour respectively, the twelfth hour is a Roman number and the sixth is represented by three stars related to Holy Mary to whom the parish church is dedicated.

The glass and marble works were carried out in Malta, while the numerical symbols were cut out in copper by Cornille-Havard foundry of France and gilded in 24-karat gold in Malta.

The clocks work by an advanced computer-controlled bell ringing technology.
