An inspiring performance by Brazilian Leozinho helped Mosta to earn a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St Andrews at the Centenary Stadium.

This was the Blues’ first win after losing in their last two outings to push themselves at mid-table with nine points.

Meanwhile, St Andrews succumbed to their fifth defeat of the season despite putting on a positive display in which they would have deserved to at least emerge with a point.

The game changing moment arrived on minute 68 when Leozinho was floored by Miguel D'Alessandro in the penalty box and from the resultant set-piece, the Brazilian forward converted to put his side one up.

The Blues squandered a glorious opportunity to seal the deal when Leozinho took charge of another penalty after being brought down by Tristan Grant.

However, this time the player who is on loan from Floriana, put his penalty wide.

St Andrews attempted a late rally but Mosta’s resilience proved to be tough to break as the Blues headed towards their third victory of the season.
