‘Fragments and their Contexts’ is a half-day seminar being organised by Heritage Malta at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta tomorrow.

This seminar will focus on a very particular facet of cultural heritage which is less obvious and even less visible than others, but which is inherent to any endeavour to interpret and present cultural heritage in a meaningful way.

The seminar will be divided in two sessions. The initial session will feature three joint papers by six Heritage Malta professionals, who will guide the audience through a journey of incompleteness in art, archaeology and architecture and how it is interpreted and understood.

This will be followed by a second session in which a number of professionals will give short presentations to address the theme of ‘fragments’ from their experience and their point of view.

The list of speakers includes JoAnn Cassar, paintings’ conservators David Frank Bugeja and Anthony Spagnol, archaeologists David Cardona and Sharon Sultana, art historian Sandro Debono, architect Veronica Bonello, philosopher Joe Friggieri, conservation architects Konrad Buhagiar and Shirley Cefai, and historian Joan Abela.

Participation is free of charge. Interested participants are requested to register by sending an e-mail to info@heritagemalta.org. The seminar starts at 8.30am. More information about Heritage Malta and its activities may be obtained at www.heritagemalta.org or the official Facebook page.
