The Embassy and the Institute of Culture in Malta are organising the Week of Italian Language in the World, a week of events promoting the Italian language.

This year's edition focuses on L'Italiano al cinema, l'italiano nel cinema, and pays tribute to the role that cinema has played in the evolution of the language and the development of Italian society, also through the storytelling of events related to the history of the country.

The week starts on October 16 with the screening of the film I Vicere by director Roberto Faenza,at the Istituto di Cultura, St George’s square, Valletta. It continues on October 18, with the conference Italy reported by Ettore Scola, held by Antonio Catolfi of the University for Foreigners of Perugia. Prof Catolfi will deepen the theme of the representation of Italy through filmography.

On October 19, at the University of Malta's Lecture Centre 119, there will be a conference titled Celluloid words, dreams of paper: Fellini and Bava between cinema, photojournalism and comics, held by Gloria Lauri-Lucente and Fabrizio Foni.

On October 20 Joseph Brincat will be hosting a conference titled The Italian Dialogue of British Characters at the Istituto di Cultura, accompanied by Giselle Spiteri Miggiani, Annalisa Galea and Olivia De Brincat. 

The programme ends on October 23 with the presentation of the book I cieli di Torino, Renzo Sicco.

All events are open to the public and free however priority will be given to members of the Italian Institute of Culture, Valletta.
