Outstanding cast for Lucia at the Astra

The Astra Theatre has announced the cast for the upcoming Donizetti’s all-time favourite Lucia di Lammermoor.

Lucia will be interpreted by Serenad Uyar whose rich-timbered voice have made her an automatic choice with flagship theatres for this tragic role.

Flanking her is Giulio Pelligra (Edgardo) who is blessed with a highly-placed and bright ringing tone. He has been hailed as one of the most exciting tenors of his generation.

The bel canto age is synonymous with charm, grace, elegance, superb phrasing, a wide palette of colours and nuances: that’s what Boris Pinkhasovich stands for.

The Russian baritone  has given intense interpretations of Enrico.

A very welcome return to the Astra boards is Dario Russo (Raimondo), whose magisterial interpretation of Oroveso (among other roles) displayed the grandeur of his timbre coupled with towering presence.

The Astra has been instrumental in launching the careers of budding local singers, not least  Joseph Calleja who this year celebrates his 20th anniversary on the world stage.

Another at home artist is Cliff Zammit Stevens, who is known for his bel canto roles.  Zammit Stevens has been entrusted with the role of Arturo.

Possessing an effortless beautiful tenor voice and an endearing personality, Zammit Stevens is set to blend seamlessly with the principals, guaranteeing a Lucia to remember.

Secondary roles are being taken up by Marvic Monreal (Alice) and Bernard Busuttil (Normanno).

Lucia, which kickstarts the 16th edition of Festival Mediterranea, will be performed in a double representation on Thursday, October 26 and Saturday, October 28 at 7.30pm and is supported by the Gozo Cultural Support Fund. Online booking and more information is available on www.teatruastra. org.mt and helpdesk number 2155 0985.
