Almost all the responses in a survey about Valletta were more positive over the past three years, with 86% saying that it is improving.

Replying to a Parliamentary Question, Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said that the Valletta 2018 Foundation had conducted a variety of surveys over the past years. Perceptions had improved on almost all the metrics:

♦ 59.2% agree it is an active city and one full of life (+4% on 2015, and 11% on 2014)
♦ 58.3% agree it is a centre of creativity (+10% on 2015)
♦ 52.2% agree it provides a high quality of life (+12% on 2015 and +20% on 2014)
♦ 81.4% agree it offers cultural diversity (+5% on 2015)
♦ 86% agree it is improving
♦ 86.5% of Valletta residents are proud of V18
♦ 89% of Valletta residents think V18 is an opportunity for Malta

Valletta was declared European Capital of Culture for 2018 in October 2012.
