A project which will pair young people with grandmothers in workshops is among the beneficiaries of this year's President's Creativity Award.
11 projects will receive around €100,000 in funding as part of the 2017 edition Il-Premju tal-President għall-Kreattività, an arts fund with a strong community and social emphasis.
Among them are children whose families have been stricken by serious illness, domestic violence survivors and people receiving treatment at Mount Carmel Hospital.
Others include a collection of narratives through creative writing, as related by migrants and a project which will see people with disabilities create video clips.
The awards are a form of recognition by the Office of the President to organisations, especially those working with vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, to engage those groups in creativity and arts-driven projects and thereby increase their level of integration and engagement in society.
In a first, this year's edition saw an additional €45,000 tranche of money reserved for beneficiaries of pmoney during previous editions of the prize.
Funds from this new strand will allow disability NGO Opening Doors Association to set up a music group, Dar Kenn Għalik - a home which helps people overcome eating disorders - develop a dramatherapy programme and the Junior College to put on a multi-day theatre festival.
Il-Premju tal-President għall-Kreattività is coordinated by Arts Council Malta under the patronage of president Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
