The Planning Authority is holding educational tours every Sunday, focusing on Malta’s cultural heritage and architecture.

The tours, led by professionals in the fields of heritage planning and conservation, are ideal for people who would like to know more about past traditions, techniques used in construction, the origins of our localities and practices in urban planning.

Floriana, also known as Citta Vilhena, will be the first locality to be visited. Dating back to 1634, the locality offers an immense heritage experience especially from a planning perspective.

With no fewer than 15 gardens, buildings, churches and monuments, the locality provides an insight into Malta’s political and social past from the time of the Knights of St John to the present day.

Throughout the tour, those attending will have the opportunity to discover a number of buildings of particular interest, gain insight into the extensive baroque fortifications built by the Knights, and learn about the typical characteristics of urban conservation areas and places of historical appeal, including gardens, churches, other interesting sites and features.

The tour will also serve to fundraise for a good cause, as €3 per participant will be donated to the Hospice Movement.

The tour will start from the Planning Authority’s offices in Floriana at 9am and will end by 12.30pm. The tours will be held on October 22, November 26 and December 17 this year and will be followed by tours on January 28, February 18, March 25, April 22 and May 6.

Those interested can book a place by calling 2290 2021 or 9942 5222 or e-mailing tours@pa.org.mt.  Places are on a first-come, first-served basis.
