A one-year preparatory course for the Diploma in Dental Surgery Assistance will start on November 1. The application deadline is October 15.

The course provides an introduction to behavioural sciences, basic dental information, principles of sterilisation and disinfection techniques, dental instrumentation and equipment commonly found in a dental clinic, as well as elements of public health and clinical ethics.

It will also deal with basic nutritional facts, oral hygiene counselling, as well as community dental health programme planning, implementation and evaluation.

Students who successfully complete the course will be eligible to proceed to the one-year diploma course, which includes a summer work placement.
