Fr John Caruana, Brazil, writes:
I came to know Mgr Fortunato Mizzi early in my priesthood and I grew to admire him. On his passing away, I would like to thank him because of the respect he showed me, which respect helped me to develop self-confidence, something much needed in the life of a newly ordained priest.
Among other activities, he asked me to join his efforts to make the first steps for a Lay Missionary Movement – two or three of them are still roaming around on this planet Earth.
But I would mostly like to quote three sayings of his which I am sure readers will appreciate.
“The quality of our future priests depends on George – who at that time was the receptionist at the seminary. It depends on whom George lets enter the seminary and whom he lets out!” Got it?
“When in a puzzled situation you succeed to find the right thread, then pull it up to the end.”
And lastly, when dealing with persons with different opinions, he used to say: “I do not agree, but I understand your point.”
