Alternative music promotion groups Hairyamp Promotions and Trackage Scheme are organising the Nil By Mouth mini-festival, which used to be held at the now defunct V-Gen in Paceville.

The eclectic line-up which will take to the stage at Sky Club on Saturday includes local and foreign alternative bands and electronic acts. The headliners will be British indie band The Wedding Present and Dutch electronic masters Weval.

Happyness (UK) and Spanish DJ and producer Pional complete the foreign line-up while The Velts, Kntrl and Fabricka are the main local acts taking part in the festival.

Brighton-based The Wedding Present were one of the UK’s top bands in the late 1980s and early 1990s. With 18 top-40 singles in the UK, they were one of the most played bands by BBC’s late disc jockey John Peel. The band has changed line-up over the years but retained the main man, David Gedge, and gained cult status.

Although British, Happyness have an American sound. They have released two albums and received critical acclaim from the likes of NME, The Guardian, Uncut and Q magazines.

Dutch duo Weval have increasingly been gaining popularity, and this summer have played at one festival after the other.

Madrid-based electronic artist Pional aka Miguel Barros is renowned for his collaborations with John Talabot and has also remixed the likes of The XX, Frank Ocean and The Rapture. He was described by Spain’s daily newspaper El Pais as being a “mainstay of the national electronic music scene”.

Local alternative band The Velts will kick off the event while local electronic artists Kntrl and Fabricka will also perform on the night.

The Nil by Mouth festival is being held on Saturday at Sky Club, Paceville. For updates, offers and competitions, follow the event’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/events/594339120736481/. Tickets can be bought online from www.trackagescheme.com.
