A re-enactment ceremony by the Xagħra Historical Re-enactment Organisation was held at Victory Square to commemorate the Great Siege of 1565 and the siege of World War II. Highlights included a triumphal entry by Grandmaster Jean Parisot de la Valette and the Captain of the Order of St John, accompanied by knights and Maltese soldiers, the Malta Police Band and a military guard of honour. Xagħra mayor Joe Cordina and archpriest Carmelo Refalo addressed the audience and wreaths were laid at the foot of a commemorative pedestal temporarily set up in the square. The activities began with a pontifical Mass celebrated by Bishop Emeritus Paul Cremona at the Xagħra basilica, animated by the Schola Cantorum Jubilate.
