John Workman’s letter (September 5), in which he encourages fellow Brits to avoid visiting Malta due to Joseph Muscat’s contribution to the Brexit debate, smacks of imperialistic blackmail.

He needs reminding that the referendum was not legally binding, was littered with lies and deception (from both sides) and the impact of which has seen one prime minister resign, another lose parliamentary majority and (with it) her dignity and the utter chaos ensuing in the divorce negotiations.

It was disproportionately the people of Workman’s generation, comfortable in their retirement, who selfishly and with disregard for the young, voted to leave the EU.

Younger people will feel the consequences of this myopia but they will be the people to enjoy the delights and welcome of this beautiful country for years to come, ignoring xenophobia and petty-mindedness.
