A group of 19 secondary school students who had participated in the Malta Junior Science Olympiad earlier this year were awarded summer internships under the Go4Research student internship programme at the University of Malta’s Faculty of Science and the Institute of Space Sciences and Astronomy.

The students joined research groups and worked on a range of projects under the supervision of researchers and other academic members of staff.

The research included determining the amount of days needed for one solar revolution, observing plant samples under a microscope, and using apparatus in the University’s Electromagnetics Laboratory to statistically analyse data.

The students also prepared posters about the projects that were exhibited at a concluding ceremony where they were presented certificates of participation by the University pro-rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer Prof. Saviour Zammit.
