A simple letter can reduce scores of hospital appointments and minimise the number of people turning up at Mater Dei Hospital to hear their consultant telling them: “It’s ok now. Your problem has gone away.”

All the consultant has to do is communicate the results or whatever needs to be done next in writing, thus avoiding the overcrowding of halls.

The serious cases can, thus, be handled more efficiently.

If something can be communicated verbally, it would be a sheer waste of time summoning patients for an appointment. The present system makes sense only if people were illiterate. It’s time to simplify the system.
