The Astronomical Society of Malta is tonight organising an event together with the Institute of Space Sciences and Astronomy at Miġra l-Ferħa, in Rabat, to observe the annual Perseid meteor shower.

Due to the waning gibbous moon, however, only the brighter meteors will probably be visible.

The event will start at 10pm. The two associations will be setting up telescopes to observe other objects in the sky, including the planet Saturn. Additionally, they will be setting up cameras to take wide field images of the Milky Way early on in the night.

The ESA Earth Systems Association and S-Cubed – Science Students’ Society are also holding an observation night at Dingli Cliffs. The gathering will take place around St Mary Magdalen church from 9.30pm to 1am. Everyone is invited to bring their own drinks and snacks.
