Spazju Kreattiv is showing the latest adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s dark and smoldering drama My Cousin Rachel.

The plot follows Philip (Sam Claflin), a young Englishman who finds his cousin Ambrose dead after travelling to Florence, Italy. He vows revenge against Ambrose’s missing wife Rachel (Rachel Weisz), blaming her for his untimely demise. But when Philip meets Rachel for the first time, his mood suddenly changes as he finds himself falling for her seductive charm and beauty. As his obsession for her grows, Rachel now hatches a scheme to win back her late husband’s estate from the unsuspecting Philip.

The first film adaptation of the novel became a box office hit in 1952, starring Richard Burton and Olivia De Havilland. The story was also turned into a mini-series in the 1980s.

The latest offering is adapted by writer-director Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes), who together with actress Weisz (The Constant Gardener, The Deep Blue Sea, The Lobster) paints a complex portrait of a liberated woman.

The 2017 drama, rated 13, is being screened tomorrow at St James Cavalier in Valletta at 8.30pm. It will be shown again on August 17 and 26. For more information and tickets, visit www.kreattivita.org or call 2122 3200.
