The staff at Malta International Airport are gearing up for their busiest day of the year, just as many others pack their suitcases and head off on their summer holiday.
The airport is expecting to host an estimated 26,000 travellers on August 17, with 167 take-offs and landings scheduled.
If you plan on travelling during this peak period, here are five MIA tips to ensure you have a stress-free trip to your final destination.
1. Plan ahead and get to the airport on time
You should be at the airport terminal at least two hours before your scheduled departure. This will give you enough time to check-in and sort out your luggage arrangements, check out the airport's recently revamped observation deck and grab a bite before your flight.
2. Check in online
Check in online to avoid queues and the stress that comes with them. Some airlines will even allow you to have your boarding pass on your mobile phone, rather than having to print it out. There are also a number of self-check-in kiosks at MIA. Check whether you can use them by clicking here.
3. Be mindful of luggage weight restrictions
There's nothing worse than being told at check-in that your suitcase is too heavy. Check your airline's luggage restrictions beforehand and weigh your bags before you leave home to avoid nasty surprises.
4. Be prepared for security screening
Sharp objects and liquids in containers larger than 100ml are not allowed in your hand luggage, so pack them in your checked-in luggage or leave them at home. Any liquids within the 100ml limit must be placed in a transparent bag, Your pockets must be empty and your belt removed. Do all this before you are asked to do so, making the screening process faster for everyone.
5. Avoid commuter stress and get a taxi
Ongoing road works are currently impacting several access routes to the airport. Although there is plenty of parking at the airport, getting a taxi will allow to focus on your upcoming trip rather than road deviations and ensure you are dropped off just one minute away from the check-in desks.
