TIBBATTS – MARGUERITE ELIZABETH, 1920-2017. Born in Kenilworth near Coventry, England, Miss Tibbatts (Rita) was privately educated along with her two sisters, Irene and Jacqueline. She served in the Camouflage Unit in WW II and then in Germany. In 1948 she became personal assistant to Robin deVere Darwin, then Head of the Royal College of Art in London becoming firm friends with him. Later she joined the World Service of the BBC working at Bush House for many years, usually travelling abroad for two or three months a year, increasingly to Malta to where she moved permanently in 2005. She was a regular sight in Kalkara, walking her dog, Prince, and fetching her two daily newspapers. Never one to waste time on housework, Rita maintained her interest in current affairs although her health and awareness deteriorated especially in her last few days at home. She was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on July 11 and died peacefully on August 4. It was her wish for her body to be donated to Malta University Anatomy Department and so there will be no funeral. We wish to thank the emergency services, staff at Medical Admissions 2 ward at Mater Dei for their care, Edmund Barbara for his patience and, above all, Amelia Bongailas for the long and loyal support and friendship that she gave to Rita over many years, lately visiting her in hospital almost daily despite the heat and time taken. Ross McClean, nephew, and Loraine.
