Malta's bid to attract the European Medicines Agency has entered into details that address current employee concerns, according to Deo Debattista.

The parliamentary secretary said this morning Malta was offering to create a specific office to offer relocating staff personalised assistance.

The EMA is currently housed at London's Canary Wharf and will move out as a result of Brexit.

Malta is one of 19 EU member states bidding to host the agency that employs 900 people.

Dr Debattista said Malta faced stiff competition: "We are like David fighting Goliath but in this case there are multiple Goliaths," he said.

However, Dr Debattista insisted Malta was addressing details that were of concern for employees and guests in London such as the length of time it took them to reach the Smart City from the airport.

The government is promising a direct shuttle service between Malta International Airport and Smart City, setting up specific clearance desks at the airport and an office that gave people individualised help to relocate their families.

The agency employees have 600 school age children and half of them have partners that would also have to relocate.

Malta is offering to erect the building on 30,000 square meters of land at Smart City by April 2019.

The decision on which country will host the agency will be taken in November.
