Denmark spurned a host of chances before dispatching Austria in an emphatic penalty shoot-out victory to reach the final of Women's Euro 2017.

Sanne Troelsgaard hit the bar and spurned another fine opening for the Danes, before Katrine Veje blasted over when through on goal.

Sarah Puntigam missed a first-half spot-kick for Austria too, before the game was left goalless at the end of normal time.

Though the clash was still deadlocked after extra-time, the Danes then mercilessly dispatched Austria 3-0 on penalties.

Nadia Nadim, Pernille Harder and Simone Sorensen all converted their spot-kicks to send Denmark through to their first European final.

Austria spurned the finest opportunity in normal time, with Puntigam blasting her first-half spot kick way over the bar.

That blazing miss proved the best chance either side could muster, leaving the teams deadlocked at full time.

Troelsgaard did strike the bar from distance for Denmark, but the penalty in truth remained the game's glaring miss.

Denmark dominated possession and shots on target throughout, but failed to capitalise on that control.

That pattern repeated itself in the first-half of extra-time, that again ended scoreless.

But while Denmark's frustrations grew, their finishing did not improve.

Troelsgaard missed another opening for the Danes in the second period of extra-time, and then Veje fired high and wide when through on goal too.

Try as Denmark might however, the stalemate stuck. But once it came to penalties, the Danes found the clinical edge to seal victory.
