An elderly man wanted in Wales to face charges of child sex abuse and pornography dating back to the 1970s has agreed to be extradited to the UK.

Bryan Davies, 70, was taken to law courts in Valletta this afternoon after his arrest in Gozo, to face extradition proceedings after being targeted by a European Arrest Warrant.

Mr Davies is wanted by UK authorities in connection with 38 offences relating to sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.

Wearing bermuda shorts and a pink summer shirt, the elderly man sat in court as the prosecution explained how police had this morning visited his residence in Munxar, Gozo.

Investigators searching his property seized various items, including a computer, mobile phones and other electronic equipment requested by UK authorities.

The court, presided over by magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech, informed Mr Bartolo that he was being sought for prosecution before the UK courts to faces charges of buggery, indecent assault upon a male victim, making indecent images of children as well as with causing or inciting children to participate in sexual activity.

Mr Davies agreed to be extradited and waived the right to file an appeal.

However, through his legal counsel, Mr Davies stressed the fact that this consent did not signify that he was admitting to the charges cited in the warrant.

The court remanded the man in custody pending his return and ordered all items seized from his Gozo residence to be sent to UK authorities.

The court also imposed a ban on the publication of the names of all victims.

Mr Davies is expected to be returned to the UK within 10 days.

Inspectors John Spiteri and Dr Mario Cuschieri prosecuted. Lawyer Noel Bartolo was legal aid.
