Opposition leader Simon Busuttil does not want a report to analyse the Nationalist Party's electoral defeat because it would expose his part in the loss, Labour deputy leader Chris Cardona said today.

Addressing a press conference at PL headquarters, Dr Cardona said Dr Busuttil had ignored a report commissioned by the PN after its electoral defeat in 2013 and was now refusing to have another one published.

“This is the clearest sign of his intent to keep influencing the party,” Dr Cardona said, adding that the electorate had overwhelmingly rejected him.

He said Dr Busuttil wanted to be a ‘Big Brother’ figure over the new leader of the PN, dictating the political agenda.

Newly-elected deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne said the PN had made a mistake in 2013 when it picked Dr Busuttil as leader. It was now making the same mistake again by allowing him to continue exerting an influence on the party, he said.

“This really shows that the faces in the leadership may change but the type of leadership will remain the same,” he said.
