New "intervention teams" have been set up to clean Gozo's beaches and tourist areas, Minister Justyne Caruana has announced.

The idea is to have an organised team to intervene rapidly when needed and to provide a constant monitoring to ensure more cleanliness, Dr Caruana said.

The team, which will also be operating during winter, will be made up of government workers who will be identifiable through specific uniforms and vehicles.

A specific freephone (8007 5556) and an e-mail (servizz.mgoz@gov.mt) have been set up for the initiative.

"The ministry is showing its determination to clean up Gozo and is expecting the public to show civic responsibility," Dr Caruana said.
