I applaud Paul Brincau for his advice to me regarding “hands off the UK”. He is right. If everybody allowed the UK to move forward as it chooses, then there would be no issue. The problem is, we live in a globalised world where others hold the keys.

I regret any suggestion I have ever supported IRA terrorism. I have not and neither have I supported DUP terrorism in the past. I have rather had to react to events on the hoof over time to safeguard the UK from recurring terrorist threats.

After the Bishopsgate bombing – 80 feet deep from memory – being on my own with one security guard at Southwark Bridge, I managed to organise a rescue mission for bankers, brokers and all else. On that dreadful Saturday, we coordinated our efforts and our emergency plan was in place. Working 24 hours a day, my team of 30 people and I restored telecommunications to every business in the City. Or we diverted service to other businesses or to home addresses. On the Monday, at 8am, London was open for business.

I was awarded the MBE by the Queen and, yes, I do know the words of our national anthem.

I do not support spend, spend, spend activities at a time that national debt is growing. While I admire Jeremy Corbyn’s moral presence I rarely agree with him on points of detail.

Finally, the correspondent is right about cheap wine. Here in Żejtun, a charming village that my UK friends call “an everyday story of country folk”, a short walk to Lidl’s gains you a bottle of Pinot Grigio for less than £2.50. Here, we can walk unmolested and meet people who care for each other.

I hope the UK is not soon to become a Third World country as the pound and the economy collapse. As long as everyone in the UK appreciates the risk and acts accordingly, I may yet feel happier.
