Spazju Kreattiv is showing live National Theatre’s adaptation of the second part of US playwright Tony Kushner’s play Angels in America.
Part Two: Perestroika picks up where the first half of the multi-award-winning play, leaves off.
Set against the backdrop of a mid-1980s America that is caught between the conservative Ronald Reagan era and the Aids crisis, Andrew Garfield (Silence, Hacksaw Ridge) plays Prior Walter, a gay New York socialite who is struggling through the thick of his illness.
When Prior’s lover, Louis, suddenly abandons him to his own devices, he begins to experience a series of angelic visitations that seem suspended between reality and emotional crisis.
Meanwhile, in the world outside Prior’s apartment, complex life dramas unfold among his extended social circles.
Directed by Marianne Elliott, the strong cast includes Denise Gough, Nathan Lane, James McArdle and Russell Tovey.
The play is being screened live today at St James Cavalier, Valletta, at 8pm. For tickets, visit www.kreattivita.org or call 2122 3200.
