Aquatic sport correspondent Alex Vella passed away on Tuesday, aged 75.

Vella had been a loyal correspondent for the Times of Malta for the past 30 years, covering all major waterpolo and swimming events with great professionalism.

During his time with the Times of Malta he also served as football correspondent for local Premier League matches.

He quit football reporting some years ago after joining the Malta Football Association's media department, where he contributed to their publications.

Sports parliamentary secretary Clifton Grima offered his condolences to Mr Vella's friends and family.

The Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport yesterday issued a statement to pay tribute to Mr Vella’s contribution local sports journalism. 

The statement said that Mr Vella would be fondly remembered for his excellent writing skills and professionalism.

Vella’s funeral will be held on Thursday at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in St Julians at 2pm.
