The choirs of All Saints’ church of Northampton, will be performing in various locations in both Malta and Gozo, appearing in three cathedrals and a basilica.

All Saints’ church has one of the finest parish church choirs in the UK and has proud musical tradition stretching back over 800 years.

The choirs today sing at least three choral services each week and play a leading role in youth education in their area.

Recent years have seen the choir touring in Austria, Denmark and the US, recording several CDs and taking a leading role in commissioning new music. The choir consists of just over 30 youngsters; most of whom are under the age of 18.

Since 1084, a choir of boys and men has sung on the site of All Saints and, since 1994, a girls’ choir has also sung at least once a week.

Records dating back to 1388 show that there were four daily services at All Hallows Church in Northampton, of which two were sung by the choir of boys and men.

Today there are separate choirs, who are supported by a back row of lay clerks and choral scholars. Together these choirs sing three or more fully choral services a week.

The choirs will be performing on the following dates:

• Friday, July 28, at St George’s Basilica, Victoria, at 7.30pm - concert of English choral music (O for a Closer Walk with God, Song of Wisdom, Greater Love, The Lord Bless You and Keep, Blessed be the God and Father, Long Since in Egypt’s Plenteous Land, Hear my prayer / O for the Wings of a Dove).
