President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca today embarked on a historic official visit to Ghana.

She was welcomed by her Ghanaian counterpart Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with whom she had a private tête-à-tête.

President Coleiro Preca said that she was very positive about the mutual understanding that there was much more to be done to further explore the potential of both countries, deepen opportunities, and enhance the excellent bilateral relations in the socio, political and economic areas.

President Coleiro Preca remarked that while Malta was uniquely placed in a superb geostrategic position in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea between Africa and Europe, Ghana was fast becoming a regional hub for opportunities in other West African markets. This further widened the opportunities for Maltese businesses looking for new markets.

President Coleiro Preca is accompanied by Foriegn Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela, and a delegation from TradeMalta.

Later, the President also had a roundtable meeting with the Mr Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at Flagstaff House.

During the meeting, she expressed her satisfaction that the Malta delegation came to Ghana with a message of friendship and to strengthen the already good relations between the two countries.

President Coleiro Preca highlighted the recent establishment of a joint technical commission between the two countries, and said that Malta was looking forward to the next meeting to be held in Ghana.

A memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the two governments was also signed by Mr Abela.
