One heartbroken mother testified about the final moments before her son died after he was stabbed in a violent scuffle which broke out in Giovanni Barbara Street, Ħamrun on a Sunday evening last April.

Lisa Pace was today testifying in the compilation of evidence against Kurt Grech, 23, known as ‘In-nemes’ and his father Joseph, 53, both from Pietà, currently standing charged with the murder of Brandon Pace.

Taking the witness stand, the grieving mother recalled how she had planned to accompany her son, together with his partner Jessica Bilocca and her young child, born out of a former relationship with Kurt Grech, to the playground.

Whilst waiting for her son to shower, the woman had overheard Ms Bilocca in a heated conversation with Kurt Grech's parents over the phone. At the time, Ms Pace was in the kitchen on Facebook.

A while later, Ms Bilocca informed her that the Grech family had turned up outside their door. Looking out of the balcony, the witness had caught sight of the two accused outside the block’s common entrance. A Skoda and a Peugeot belonging to the Grechs were parked out on the street.

Warning Ms Bilocca not to tell Brandon of the arrival of the Grech family, Ms Pace rushed down soon to be followed by her son, wielding a knife.

In the ensuing argument which broke out, the mother allegedly witnessed her son being stabbed twice on the side by Kurt Grech, after slipping in the middle of the street.

Grabbing a squeezer, the mother had hit out at Kurt Grech just as her daughter Donna Pace arrived at the scene. The two women managed to help the victim to his feet, assisting him towards the common entrance door.

However, just then, the other co-accused Joseph Grech, allegedly stabbed the victim twice in the back. As her son collapsed to the ground, Ms Pace recalled his dying words “Ma, I love you.”

Inspectors Keith Arnaud and Elliott Magro prosecuted. Lawyer Roberto Montalto was defence counsel. Lawyer Noel Bianco appeared parte civile.
