Eight police officers were called in last Sunday afternoon to restrain one frustrated man who wrought havoc in the home of a host after the promise of a sexual encounter went terribly wrong.

The man, in his thirties, was arraigned this afternoon on charges relating to the episode, wherein he admitted to insulting and threatening the police officers, attempting to injure two of them and disobeying their legitimate orders. The man was also charged with slightly injuring his host, caused damaging her property and breaching public peace.

Sources told Times of Malta the accused had been invited to the woman's house for a drink.

However, after a few glasses of wine, as the encounter took a more intimate turn, disaster struck when the man suddenly realised his host was transgender.

Police assistance had to be sought to break up the fight which, reportedly, left the woman slightly injured and with a trail of damages to her home allegedly exceeding €2,500.

Before Magistrate Anthony Vella, the disappointed lover pleaded guilty to all the charges and was condemned to a jail term of 18 months suspended for two years. He was also fined €800 in relation to the charge concerning the threats posed against the officers who had been doing their duty. Expenses involved were still to be determined once court experts submitted their report.

In view of the particular circumstances of the case, the court ordered a ban on the publication of names.

Lawyer Joseph Giglio was defence counsel. Legal Procurator Peter Paul Zammit appeared parte civile.
