People living in Tignè can boast of having the best possible view of Valletta. It is the place where you can be sure to see Valletta without your eyes being hit by a monstrosity view of Tignè.
But if you look from the side of the Grand Harbour, such as from the Upper Barrakka, you cannot see Tignè. Instead, you can enjoy what is arguably one of the best scenes anywhere in the world.
But this scene bears a scar. Go up on the Upper Barrakka and decide for yourself the effect of the square bit of skyline that juts out from nowhere next to our majestic Bighi. Then ask yourself whether or not this is a scar on an otherwise wonderful world-class view.
That square mini-monstrosity is SmartCity.
And now they want to expand it. Does their plan take into account the way this would affect this jewel of national heritage: the view from high places in our scenic city Valletta?
Who wins and who loses, in this country of ours?
