5. The theme this year is our favourite topic ever

That’s right! Politics. With a concert called Jekk Ittuna n-Number 1, this is a no-brainer. If you’re feeling the withdrawals from the hilarity of the campaigning from last June’s election – and let’s face it, aren’t we all – then this is just the event for you. I’m not sure what it is about politics that gets us, as a nation, going. But by the looks of it, the stars behind Kelma Kelma Nota Nota (KKNN) are eager to help us find out.

The list of funnies is a long one – would-be MPs turning up on your doorstep to offer favuri in exchange for votes? Check. Shady individuals banging on the perspex and driving everyone nuts at the counting hall? Check. Cheap hampers with candidates’ photos to cure you of that huge appetite? Check, check, check.

There’s no denying that the Maltese are a big bunch of weirdos when it comes to election time and Kelma Kelma Nota Nota won’t be shy to call us out on it.

4. The very local flavour

It’s not enough to make it about our election quirks. No, this year’s Kelma Kelma Nota Nota gets up close and personal with references to the real stars of the past election. After all, you can’t call it Jekk Ittuna n-Number 1 without referring to the creme de la creme of past and present (and future? Who knows?) candidates, can you? Expect to hear all about our political nearest and dearest, in musical format.

3. The surprise guests always rock

In 2015 we had MaryRose Mallia, local icon and beloved goddess and everything in between. She brought the house down with her rendition of Festa (among other things), that beloved folk anthem that gets everyone moving. Then there were Chiara and Destiny – equally well-beloved, also bringing the house down. This year there will be... well, as usual, the KKNN team are being rather coy about the whole thing and refusing to release any details. But according to Michael Spagnol, expect something different... and not necessarily limited to guest singers only, either. We’ll take whatever you throw at us Michael!

2. A longer concert equals more fun

KKNN events typically are about an hour and 15 minutes long. Now, as we all know, the Maltese are firm disbelievers in the saying that ‘too much of a good thing is bad’. On the contrary my friend, why have only some of the fun when you can have it all?

The organiser have finally bowed down to pressure from the masses and extended the concert to a full two hours. That’s right, we all get two hours of singing, shouting, clapping, yelling... and generally being Maltese.

There will be an interval. But apparently it won’t be a ‘real’ interval. Whatever that means is anyone’s guess, but we’re sure whatever it is will be amazeballs.

1. This time they really outdid themselves

Preparations for the concert started back in October. That’s right, when we all thought that this summer would be the precursor to an autumn election. Fast forward to this year’s snap election and you’d think that a lot of the lads’ jokes are outdated.

Don’t be silly. The entire KKNN team went back to the drawing board, removed anything that was not so relevant anymore and totally updated script, songs and jokes to reflect the very latest. That is how committed they are to giving us a good time. Gotta love these guys!

Kelma Kelma Nota Nota concerts take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and August 1, 2 and 3 at 8pm at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta. The participants include Ray Calleja, Kelma Kelma, Daniel Cauchi and the Big Band Brothers. Tickets are available online.
