A 50-year-old man is being held under arrest after breaching bail conditions and breaking into his former partner’s residence.

Paulo Miguel Da Costa Osorio, originally from Portugal, had been in a relationship with a woman from Fgura for 16 years. The court this afternoon heard that he kept harassing her since he did not want to accept that the relationship had come to an end.

Mr Da Costa Osorio was accused of harassment, inflicting fear of violence, insulting her and entering her residence despite warnings, among others. The court heard that the man was capable of climbing up shafts or balconies and breaking into her property.

He was also accused of breaching bail conditions, a protection order and a probation order.

The accused, who has just started a new job this week, told the court that he still loved his former partner.

His legal aid lawyer Mark Mifsud Cutajar requested bail, noting that although Mr Da Costa Osorio had approached the woman several times, his behaviour was not threatening.

However, Inspector Hubert Cini said the man had already broken bail conditions.
On one occasion he was released from the Corradino Correctional Facility at 6pm, and by 7pm he was already behind his former partner's door in Fgura, he told the court presided by Magistrate Ian Farrugia.

The court refused the bail plea.
