Updated 6.45pm - Added Ministry statement

The Environment Ministry has welcomed the Opposition's calls for parliament to investigate Wasteserv's hiring of workers between January 2016 and last June. 

In a ministry statement, Environment Minister Josè Herrera said he had no problem with the sector being scrutinised and would be offering his full cooperation to any eventual "discussion" about the matter. 

The Opposition's representatives in the Public Accounts Committee - Kristy Debono and Claudio Grech - as well as its Environment spokesman Karol Aquilina, had called for the committee chairman to investigate Wasteserv recruitment earlier today.
