A man who last Sunday evening injured his estranged partner, whom he had been barred from approaching under an earlier bail decree, was remanded in custody to await judgment.

This morning 25-year old Seajay Cardona from Msida was arraigned under arrest to face criminal charges over the episode wherein he slightly injured the woman, besides insulting and threatening her with violence.

He was also charged with breaching bail conditions placed upon him by a Magistrates’ Court last December. In terms of those conditions he had been precluded from approaching the woman.

The prosecution informed the court, presided over by magistrate Grazio Mercieca, that the man was a relapser with several convictions on his criminal record.

The court was asked to order the man’s rearrest as well as the forfeiture of the deposit of €3,000 and the personal guarantee of €20,000 which had been imposed under last December’s bail decree.

After taking note of the man's guilty plea, the court remanded him in custody, declaring that sentence would be delivered at a later date.

Inspector Robert Vella prosecuted.
Lawyers Michael and Lucio Sciriha were defence counsel.
