The feast of St Mary Magdalene will be celebrated at the church dedicated to her in Merchants Street, Valletta, on Friday. Dominican parish priest and rector Michael Camilleri will celebrate Mass after the recitation of the rosary at 6.30pm.

For a long number of years this church, one of the only surviving parts of the Magdalene convent that was destroyed in World War II, was used as a warehouse for carnival floats.

It was reopened as a church a couple of years ago. It still preserves glorious sculptures in Maltese stone.

The church, run by the Dominican community of Valletta, underwent extensive restoration work and cleaning both on the interior and exterior. During the past weeks the church’s ceiling and apse were whitewashed.

At the end of the celebration a new painting of the Holy Family by Kurt Friggieri will be inaugurated. It will be placed on theside altar.
