More than 30 families in Iklin are concerned that works have blocked vehicle access to their homes unless they drive the wrong way up a one-way street or in reverse.

A resident of Lewis F Mizzi Street said this was the situation for people in his street and in part of Giovanni Curmi Street.

Road works are currently underway to widen the road, which sees very heavy traffic.

“This is a much-needed project but what the government’s engineer, the council and the Planning Authority probably did not consider was that more than 30 families living in the area have lost access to their streets.”

The resident said that even the contractor’s trucks and government cars were probably breaching traffic regulations as there was no other way to reach the area.
