Our public transport system is certainly not up to standard even though it is quite heavily subsidised by taxpayers’ money. In fact it is almost as bad as the old system except that the buses are air conditioned.

I recently travelled to Valletta by bus and I and the other passengers were let down by the service. I hurried through Valletta to catch the 10.35am bus and I managed to arrive at the terminus at 10.20am. The bus was at the departure station but there was no driver.

Finally a driver turned up for the 11.05am bus. This meant that I and the other passengers had to wait in the scorching sun for nearly a whole hour.

Why weren’t we told that there was no 10.35am bus service? Why were we left waiting in the sun for such a long time? This is a very shoddy service.

A recorder ought to be installed at the terminus to chronicle what the tourists are saying about us and what Maltese passengers think about what is supposed to be a state-of-the-art public transport service.
