Popular education, social class and education, anti-racist education and feminism of difference are among the topics discussed in a series of essays in a recently published book in Italian co-authored by Prof. Peter Mayo of the University of Malta and Prof. Paolo Vittoria from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II.

Other topics discussed include lifelong learning, the Chilean September 11, social movements learning with specific reference to the Landless Workers Movement in Brazil, education in the Mediterranean from a Freirean perspective, and the educational ideas of Ettore Gelpi, Paulo Freire, Antonio Gramsci, Lorenzo Milani and the Schools of Barbiana, Anna Maria Piussi, Antonia De Vita, Amilcar Cabral and Julius Nyerere.

The book, entitled Saggi di Pedagogia Critica. Oltre il Neoliberismo. Analizzando Educatori, Lotte e Movimenti Sociali, has been adopted as the main text for courses at the Universities of Verona and Naples Federico II.

The book, Prof. Mayo’s second in Italian, is published by the Società Editrice Fiorentina (SEF), formerly the Libreria Editrice Fiorentina.
