A woman trying to take a selfie at a museum in Los Angeles caused €175,000 worth of damage after she lost her balance and dropped a display pedestal, which in turn toppled at least 10 others.

Video shared to website LiveLeak shows the woman crouching in front of a row of pedestals at The 14th Factory before falling over, beginning a domino chain of destruction which led to three sculptures being permanently damaged.

The 14th Factory is a non-profit temporary art project located in Los Angeles, California and is scheduled to close at the end of July. Its website describes it as "a monumental, multiple-media, socially engaged art and documentary experience conceived by the Hong Kong-based British artist Simon Birch."

Titled 'Hpercaine', the exhibit consists of various crowns built using different mediums, from marble to gold, wood, nylon or even dried herbs and flowers.

In what turned out to be an eerily prophetic headline, the Los Angeles Times had previewed the exhibit in May with the headline 'Oh, the selfies you’ll make at L.A.’s 14th Factory, where the art is so social.'
