Empty glass bottles left at bars and restaurants in Paceville will now be collected free of charge by GreenPak Co-op, with the waste recovery firm extending its collection service to the entertainment hotspot.

The service, which currently collects glass from establishments along the Gżira, Sliema and St Julians promenade at 1am, will now continue gathering recyclable glass from outlets on some of Paceville's key streets.

Collection trucks begin their route at Manoel Island and make their way through Qui-si-Sana, Tower Road, Balluta Bay and Spinola Hill.

The Paceville route includes Dobbie Street, Gort Street, Dragonara Road, Church Street, Paceville Avenue, Ross Street, Salvu Privitera Street, Schrieiber Street, St Andrew’s Road, St Augustine Street, Wilġa Street, and St. George’s Bay.

GreenPak's early morning collection service has been running since August last year and has so far collected more than 35 tonnes of glass bottles. The service is organised in collaboration with local councils in Gżira, Sliema and St Julian's and the government's Cleaning Services Department.

“During the busier summer months, catering outlets produce a larger volume of empty glass bottles," explained the company's operations manager Daniel Tabone.

"Apart from diverting such amounts from landfills, we ensure the least possible noise pollution and traffic congestion, the least business interruption, and tidier environments in and around workplaces."

The service will run seven days a week until October 1 and will switch to operating on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on October 6.

GreenPak also organises a monthly door-to-door glass collection service for households and commercial outlets on the first Friday of the month. In Gozo, the service is operated every first Thursday of the month.
