I refer to the front page article of June 7 which refers to Edwin Vassallo’s vote against the new marriage laws. It states that the decision on what to do about his vote and whether any action will be taken will be decided today.

Well, I strongly urge the Nationalist Party, and indeed all members of Parliament to find Vassallo guilty as charged. Hopefully they will unanimously decide that an appropriate punishment would be to erect a life-size monument of Vassallo and prominently place it in either St George’s Square or Castille in Valletta with the following caption:

Hon Edwin Vassallo, the only Maltese parliamentarian with the guts to go against the strong current and vote on what his conscience dictates upholding the strong Catholic faith which the majority of Maltese practise.

Well done Edwin. The Nationalist Party has got drubbings from the Maltese public in the last two general elections; I dread to think what the next result will be.

We do need a strong third party, and now is the time to commence work on its formation.
