Edward Torpiano and Carm Mifsud Bonnici spoke on Christian values as universal values and, therefore, beneficial to all. Consequently, a party that represents these values is not a religious institution but one built on rocks and not on clay. It is a party that draws up policies for a better quality of life without ignoring values. This does not diminish anything but contributes towards a better society even when this is not measured by votes.

It is not the same when a government presents a draft law in Parliament on marriage equality while trampling on the aspirations of the majority of the people.

Do we have to be so divisive by insisting on deleting the meaningful words like father and mother and husband and wife? Are we to sacrifice what is so dear to the majority of human beings precisely when we are speaking of how much we are for social inclusion?

Equality demands that while LGTBIQ rights are legally acknowledged and respected – equally and fairly – one would also respect those who are supportive of a lasting and happy marriage between man and woman as the most natural situation for children and society. This is what peaceful coexistence within a unity in variety is all about.

In my opinion, Nationalist MP Edwin Vassallo had a right to convey his message, same as Beppe Fenech Adami has a right to speak of a “victory for love”, which is commendable provided this love applies genuinely to all and in all situations without discrimination.

Pietru Pawl Busuttil’s memory is a shining example of how dishonesty can be overcome by honesty and integrity. Simon Busuttil has renewed the party, inspired by these values.

Let us continue to sustain the PN, by responsibly doing our utmost to  elect its next leader who will best serve the people.
