This year’s 20th anniversary of the Victoria International Arts Festival comes to a close this evening with a concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of VIAF artistic director Joseph Vella.

Vella’s Sounds of Celebration Op. 129, Joseph Haydn’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major Op. 68 (Pastoral) will be performed.

For Haydn’s Concerto, the organisers are bringing over the principal trumpet of the Bastille Opera, Paris, Nicolas Chatenet.

This concert brings to a close a successful run of 36 musical and cultural events, that saw over 600 musicians descend on Gozo in the pastfive weeks.

Concerts were held in major venues all over Victoria and record audiences filled the halls and churches every evening, the organisers said.

Tonight’s concert is being held at St George’s Basilica at 8pm.
