The amount of traffic that piles up in Msida is quite evident in this picture. This is not just the result of many motorists deciding to drive through this road at the same time. This sort of traffic did not exist before. The problem is man-made.

It was created when somebody at Transport Malta decided to place red pylons in front of the A1 bar in Gżira all the way past the Manoel Island petrol station. All the traffic is, thus, funnelled through a single carriageway. There is no point having a very short dual carriage way, from the Manoel Island petrol station till RLR, where the single carriageway starts again.

We do not know whether it was the same person or not who, earlier, had reversed a decision to have a bus lane in Gżira. As a result, traffic flows much better today and tailbacks are not that bad when, before, when the bus lane was still there), they used to start from near The Point tunnel.

Given the ever-increasing number of cars, it is vital that Transport Malta takes another look at what is going on in this part of the island and then does its utmost to ensure traffic flows smoothly again, as was the case before.

I have written before, highlighting the predicament a motorist faces when driving towards Gżira but my comments fell on deaf ears.

If Transport Malta people think they are in the right, they should reply to this letter to say so and why. If they realise they have erred, then they should immediately make the necessary modifications.
