Valletta eased into the second qualifying round of the Europa League when they beat Folgore 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium in Serravalle to complete a 3-0 aggregate win.

Buoyed by last week’s 2-0 win at the Hibs Stadium, the Citizens were always in control as their technical superiority over their San Marino counter parts was evident.

Santiago Malano and Michael Mifsud created the best chances for the Citizens in the first half with little dividends.

However, it was Folgore who should have taken the lead on the stroke of half-time when goalkeeper Henry Bonello was dispossessed by Marco Bernardi just outside the area but the Folgore striker fired wide.

The hosts paid dearly for this miss as Valletta struck the winner on 65 minutes.

The visitors were awarded a central free-kick and Malano’s inswinger came off the bar and onto the back of goalkeeper Alessandro Bianchi with the ball rolling into the net.

From then on Valletta administered their advantage to coast to the second qualifying round where they face Utrecht, of the Netherlands.
