MLS: Real Salt Lake, previously bottom of the Western Conference, sprung a surprise with a 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy. Jefferson Savarino scored twice for RSL, with Albert Rusnak, Kyle Beckerman, Yura Movsisyan and Joao Plata also finding the net. Ashley Cole and Bradford Jamieson were on target for the Galaxy.

Stam: Reading manager Jaap Stam has signed a two-year contract extension as he aims to take the Championship club to the Premier League. Former Manchester United defender Stam joined Reading in 2016 and has committed to the club until 2019 after the team finished third in the regular season and reached the play-off final where they lost to Huddersfield Town. The 44-year-old had said he would stay with the Royals regardless of the final result in May.

Boyata: Celtic are waiting on news of Dedryck Boyata after the defender went off injured in a friendly against Slavia Prague. The Belgium international suffered a knee injury just before half-time in the goalless encounter in the Czech capital and was substituted at the break. Celtic will now hope he recovers before their Champions League campaign begins against Linfield in Belfast on July 14.

Tymon: Hull’s highly-rated defender Josh Tymon has left the club with immediate effect after turning down a new contract offer. Tymon, 18, earned rave reviews after making his first-team breakthrough in the Premier League last season and has been linked with joining Stoke.

Coentrao: Real Madrid’s full back Fabio Coentrao has joined Sporting in his native Portugal on a one-year loan from the Spanish club. “I’m very happy to have the chance to play at this great club,” he said on Twitter. He will be looking to resurrect a career that has been blighted with injuries.
